On Wednesday, May 29, the Institute of International and Security Studies hosted a lecture by Prof. Janis van der Westhuizen entitled Ukraine, the 2023 BRICS Summit and South Africa’s non-alignment crisis.

Prof. Janis van der Westhuizen specializes in the topic of international politics. He is a professor of political science at Stellenbosch University in South Africa and holds a PhD in political science from Dalhousie University in Canada.

Prof. Westhuizen is also involved in the BRICS Policy Center, a think tank affiliated with the Institute of International Relations at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). The center analyzes global transformations and their implications for Brazil and the countries of the Global South. At the BRICS Policy Center Prof. Westhuizen is working at the Center for Urban Development and Sustainable Development on a project on South Africa as host of the 2010 World Cup.
