On Thursday, June 13, the Institute of International and Security Studies hosted Prof. Nicola de Jager from Stellenbosch University, who delivered a lecture entitled ‘The ANC’s rule in South Africa: A tale of two legacies’.
The lecture was funded by an Erasmus+ KA 171 grant and was organized by Dr. Marek Musiol.
Nicola de Jager (PhD in Political Science, University of Pretoria) is an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science at Stellenbosch University. From January 2018 to December 2022, she served as co-editor-in-chief of the international journal Commonwealth and Comparative Politics. She was a Fellow of the African-Oxford (AfOx) Program at the University of Oxford. Previously, she was associated with the Transformation Research Unit (TRU), a research unit focused on projects on the transition from autocracy to democracy and vice versa, the conditions for sustaining democracy, and the quality of government. Nicola has edited two books, South African Politics, published by Oxford University Press and Friend or Foe? Dominant party systems in southern Africa (co-edited with Prof. Pierre du Toit) published by UCT Press and UNU Press. She has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including Democratization, Journal of Modern African Studies, Third World Quarterly, Politikon, Taiwan Journal of Democracy and Journal of Contemporary African Studies on comparative politics, religion and politics, democratization, southern African politics and southern African politics.
