Between April 2 and 4, 2025, the University of Wrocław hosted a high-level delegation from Montenegro, led by the Minister of Culture and Media, Dr. Tamara Vujović. The visit was part of the ongoing development of bilateral cultural and academic relations between Montenegro and Poland, aiming to strengthen cooperation in protecting, conserving, and restoring cultural heritage.

The visit was organized by Dr. hab. Małgorzata Łakota-Micker from the Institute of International and Security Studies also serves as Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Republic of Poland in Podgorica. Dr. Łakota-Micker participated in the discussions and represented Polish diplomacy and the academic community during the visit.

During their stay, the delegation visited several institutions involved in heritage conservation:

  • The University of Wrocław Museum (including the Leopoldine Hall and the Mathematical Tower),
  • The Laboratory of Archaeometry and Conservation of Archaeological Monuments at the Institute of Archaeology, UWr,
  • The University Library – Conservation and Digitization Department,
  • And the University’s Botanical Garden.

During a meeting with the Rector of the University of Wrocław, Prof. Robert Olkiewicz, Minister Vujović recalled that Montenegrin-Polish archaeological cooperation at excavation sites in Risan has been ongoing since 2000, and the 2021 intergovernmental agreement provides a strong foundation for further collaboration in culture, education, and science. At the end of the visit, the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the University of Wrocław and the Ministry of Culture and Media of Montenegro was announced. The agreement will include joint projects in conservation, archaeology, digitisation, and student and expert exchanges.

This cooperation will culminate in a conference devoted to the achievements of Montenegrin and Polish archaeologists and cultural heritage specialists, scheduled to take place on May 27, 2025, in Kotor, under the patronage of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Montenegro.
