We are pleased to announce that an international research team, including Dr Marek Antoni Musioł from the University of Wrocław, has been awarded a prestigious Insight Development Grant by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) – a Canadian federal agency that supports and promotes research and training in the humanities and social sciences.
The funded project, titled “Our Man in Moscow: Understanding Why Small or Socialist States in the Global South Pursue Shelter Relationships with Russia Despite Enormous Risk”, will be conducted between 2025 and 2027.
The research team comprises:
– Prof. Robert Huish (Dalhousie University, Canada) – Principal Investigator
– Prof. Mervyn Bain (University of Aberdeen, Scotland)
– Prof. Nichole Georgeou (Western Sydney University, Australia)
– Dr Marek Antoni Musioł (University of Wrocław, Poland)
The project aims to examine the strategic, political, and ideological motivations behind the alignment of selected Global South states with the Russian Federation, despite the risks involved. Final research findings will be presented at a dedicated seminar in Wrocław. The project also foresees the active involvement of second- and third-cycle students as research assistants, providing them with valuable experience in international research collaboration.
