On 15 November 2025, the University of Leipzig hosted the EMGS Graduation Ceremony 2025, which also marked the 20th anniversary of the European Master in Global Studies programme. The event brought together this year’s graduates, their families and friends, as well as representatives of partner universities from Wrocław, Leipzig, Vienna, Roskilde, London and Ghent.
The University of Wrocław was represented by a strong delegation from the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Institute of International and Security Studies: Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Magdalena Ratajczak, Prof. Marek Wróblewski, Prof. Jarosław Jarząbek, and Dr Marek Musioł. Their presence highlighted the University of Wrocław’s role as an active and valued partner within the EMGS consortium. The event also welcomed several graduates affiliated with our university.
A special highlight of the celebration was the session titled “WE WILL MISS IT!”, during which EMGS graduates from various partner institutions shared their study experiences, reflections and research projects. Among the speakers was Jeannette Touma from the University of Wrocław, whose presentation emphasised the relevance of the Wrocław perspective within the international Global Studies community.

The ceremony also included the official awarding of prizes and diplomas. Prof. Magdalena Ratajczak, in her capacity as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, announced and presented the EMGS Best Master Thesis 2025 Award. This was followed by the distinction of the EMGS Best Graduate 2025, while representatives of Ghent University and the University of Vienna presented graduation diplomas.
The celebrations of 20 YEARS OF EMGS concluded with the screening of a specially prepared film summarising two decades of the programme’s development. The video revisits the origins of EMGS, the evolution of the consortium, the careers of its graduates and the global relevance of studying processes of globalisation. The participation of the University of Wrocław’s delegation in the EMGS Graduation Ceremony 2025 and the 20th anniversary celebrations provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen cooperation within the consortium, exchange scholarly and educational experiences, and celebrate the achievements of graduates who have shaped the EMGS community over the past two decades.
