We are pleased to announce that researchers representing the Institute of International and Security Studies (IISS) have contributed to the new Routledge publication Challenges in Environmental Communication: A Global Perspective, edited by Dr Bartłomiej Łódzki and Dr Justyna Arendarska. The volume presents a wide range of approaches to environmental communication, encompassing global, regional, and sector-specific perspectives.
The book includes chapters that address key challenges in contemporary environmental communication:
Prof. Marta Ryniejska-Kiełdanowicz and Prof. Magdalena Ratajczak explore the potential of branding strategies in environmental communication through a Swiss case study, demonstrating how marketing tools can foster ecological engagement when adapted to cultural contexts and social expectations.
Dr Justyna Arendarska presents a feminist approach to environmental communication, showing how inclusive language, empathy, and diverse perspectives can amplify the voices of marginalised groups and support actions for environmental justice.
Natalia Pietruszka, MA, analyses how states use legal systems and public communication to portray climate defenders as threats and to restrict their activities.
This publication represents an essential contribution by the University of Wrocław to global research on environmental communication, integrating media, political, and social perspectives to better understand contemporary environmental challenges.
The book is available in open access:
