On 14 January 2026, the Institute of International and Security Studies at the University of Wrocław organised an online lecture entitled ‘Building Peace in a Digital Age: From Local Justice to Global Cooperation’. The meeting took place on Microsoft Teams, and the guest was Courtney Chicvak, a lecturer in the Negotiation and Conflict Resolution (NECR) programme at Columbia University School of Professional Studies.
During the lecture, the speaker discussed how digital tools and new technologies influence peacebuilding, strengthening dialogue and access to justice – from local initiatives to international cooperation. She highlighted the practical applications of mediation and dispute resolution in the online environment and the challenges of negotiation processes in the digital age. The presentation was followed by a discussion and a question-and-answer (Q&A) session.
The event was attended by nearly 70 people, underscoring the academic community’s keen interest in digital peacebuilding and contemporary conflict-resolution mechanisms.
Courtney Chicvak is the Director of Training and Development for Alternative Dispute Resolution at Long Island Dispute Resolution Centres (LIDRC). She is a mediator, educator and lawyer, and her work focuses on the intersection of community peacebuilding, law and conflict resolution, with a particular emphasis on the use of technology to support dialogue and access to justice.
