Dr Michał Piekarski took part in the 8th edition of Defence24 Days, one of the most important conferences dedicated to security and defence in Central and Eastern Europe.

Dr Piekarski participated in the panel “Migration as a Weapon – A New Dimension of Hybrid Pressure,” which focused on hybrid threats, border security, and the contemporary forms of pressure employed by authoritarian states. The discussion brought together experts from Poland, Finland, and Sweden, as well as representatives of NATO structures and institutions dealing with international security.

During the debate, Dr Michał Piekarski highlighted the challenges related to the need for adequate countermeasures and effective responses to hybrid threats. He also stressed the importance of an inclusive approach to security and of harnessing the full potential of both state institutions and society, drawing on experiences from the situation at the Polish–Belarusian border.

The panel also addressed issues related to the protection of critical infrastructure and border security, including the specific challenges connected with safeguarding Poland’s maritime border.
