General Information
The Institute of International and Security Studies of the University of Wrocław offers a program of two-year full-time master studies of International Relations in English. The program is directed at all who want to study International Relations at one of Poland’s most renowned and modern universities. The language of tuition for all the obligatory courses in the course of studies is English. Students also have the opportunity to choose and study additional courses in English, German, Polish and Russian.
Recent political and economic changes in the world have increased the demand for specialists in the field of international relations with a global perspective. To meet these needs, the Institute of International Studies introduced a program focusing on international relations and combining approaches of global studies, cultural studies and regional studies. The program is designed to equip students with a significant knowledge of the most important contemporary international issues, such as the international system, processes of globalization and regionalization, development economics, international human rights protection, commercial law and international economics. During seminars, students can focus on issues related to diplomacy, bilateral and multilateral relations, international security, European integration, global problems, international communication or international economic relations.
Description of program
The MA program contains 874 course hours, equivalent to 120 ETCS credits. To finish the program, students must write and defend a master’s thesis under the supervision of one of the institute’s professors.
The program of studies consists of a set of obligatory courses provided in each of the four semesters and optional courses, which students choose according to their own interests. Students can attend the workshops and lectures offered each semester at the institute by visiting professors according to their interests and individual specialisation programs.
Students have to collect 30 ECTS in each semester from obligatory courses, optional courses and workshops. Each optional course is granted 4 ECTS, and an optional workshop is granted 2 ETCS. Additionally, all foreign students at the University of Wrocław must attend the Polish language course for two semesters and pass the exam on level A1. As a part of additional activities, students of our program can take part in the sports class organized by the University’s Sports Centre, participate in the programs of international student exchange (Erasmus+ and other programs) and use all the other offers directed to the students of the University of Wrocław.

The MA International Relations Global Studies curriculum includes courses on international law, global economics, international politics, conflict resolution, and foreign policy analysis, among others.

Entry requirements
The entry requirements for Master Program International Relations – Global Studies:
- BA degree or recognized equivalent in social studies, humanities or economy
- proficiency in English certified by a test (IELTS with minimum score 6 or TOEFL with minimum score 550 or equivalent test), N/A if English was a BA studies language of tuition or is a native language.
- a candidate must fulfil the procedural and administrative conditions defined for all the candidates for studies at the University of Wrocław (http://international.uni.wroc.pl/en/study-english/entry-requirements).
- all the applications are evaluated by the Recruitment Commission for the Master Program International Relations – Global Studies
- The needed documents are a secondary school certificate, a Bachelor’s Degree Certificate Secondary School Transcript, a Bachelor’s Degree Transcript, proof of English proficiency (if needed), confirmation of registration fee payment, a medical certificate, a passport photocopy, and a photo.
Learning outcomes
The program is designed to equip the student with a comprehensive and useful knowledge of the present international issues, including the international system, processes of globalization and regionalization, international trade and economy, international security, human rights, social policy and environmental protection. A very important role in learning plays a wide range of optional courses, which allows every student to fully profile his/her program of studies and adjust it to individual needs and expectations. Thanks to that, the specialization of Global Studies gains great flexibility and allows our students to obtain skills and competence in both broad spectrum areas of expertise and very deep and complete knowledge in one or a few of the chosen spheres.
